About the KNRB

The Royal Dutch Rowing Federation (KNRB) represents 124 rowing clubs across the Netherlands, with approximately 44,000 members. We are committed to strengthening rowing communities and promoting both grassroots and elite-level rowing.

About the Role

As an Embedded Scientist / Physiologist, you will play a key role in systematically monitoring training and competition performance. You will provide direct, evidence-based feedback to athletes and coaches, helping optimize physical and technical development. Working closely with a multidisciplinary support team (including three other physiologists, five coaches, and various specialists), you will make an impact both operationally and analytically. You report hierarchically to the Director of Elite Rowing and functionally to the Head Coach.

Your Responsibilities

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret training and competition data for national team athletes.

  • Design training programs and coach athletes in their physical development.

  • Develop and implement innovative measurement and analysis methods.

  • Present insights to staff, athletes, and stakeholders.

  • Manage and maintain testing and measurement equipment.

  • Support training camps and competitions, both nationally and internationally.

What Do You Bring?

  • Experience working in a high-performance sports environment with elite athletes.

  • Strong coaching skills in physiology and physical development, with the ability to provide real-time feedback to support performance progress.

  • Academic background in Human Movement Sciences, Physiology, Biomedical Sciences, or related Sport & Exercise Master’s programs.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a drive for continuous improvement.

  • Ability to translate scientific knowledge into practical advice.

  • Flexibility in working hours and locations – based at the OTC Bosbaan in Amstelveen, with travel to international training camps and competitions.
